This calculator compares two people using two old systems that approach the same question from different angles. The Chinese zodiac looks at your birth year and the animal attached to it; the Western zodiac looks at your birth date and the sun sign it falls under. The Chinese results follow Theodora Lau's framework, the most widely cited modern treatment of the tradition. Her Triangle of Affinity groups the twelve animals into four trines whose temperaments mesh naturally, while the Six Conflicts mark the pairs that classically clash. Western results use the older element-and-modality correspondences — Fire, Earth, Air, and Water, crossed with Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable energy.
